MAT Addiction Treatment in Los Angeles

Los Angeles residents choose Novo Detox and Rehab Center as their top choice for an addiction treatment center for the quality of care that is placed upon each individual patient. What we know about drug and alcohol addiction is that each individual person has their own unique history and story of substance abuse that has contributed to their current addictive behaviors. Through our personalized treatment plans, each patient will have the opportunity to address and heal from their alcohol or drug addiction through a treatment plan that is specifically designed to facilitate personal growth and foster a life of sober living equipped with the knowledge and tools to overcome potential triggers or distractions. Our team of addiction therapists and medical professionals, including on-call nurses and doctors who are available 24/7, are specifically trained on safe detox and rehab protocols that ensure you are able to overcome your alcohol and drug addiction while providing you with the utmost safety and compassion throughout your addiction recovery process.

Healing from a substance use disorder requires an in-depth approach that incorporates a continuum of care to support you throughout each phase of your recovery process. Our dedicated team will be by your side every step of the way as you begin to delve into what has been at the core of your drug or alcohol addiction while developing a new way of life in addiction recovery. In order to manage the physical, emotional, and mental addiction that has been developed to alcohol or drugs, patients will be invited to participate in the following methods of addiction treatment:

  • Alcohol or drug detox
  • Inpatient rehab for alcohol or drug addiction
  • Outpatient rehab is offered through an intensive outpatient program or partial hospitalization program.
  • Sober living housing
  • Aftercare programs
  • Alumni support

Throughout your addiction recovery process, patients experiencing significant or severe addiction to drugs or alcohol may be invited to participate in a medically assisted treatment (MAT) program. Your safety and comfortability are at our highest priority as we recognize that patients may be experiencing side effects including withdrawal symptoms from your alcohol or drug addiction that requires the support of a medically assisted treatment program to assist in alleviating any intense cravings for alcohol or drugs and serve as a tool for relapse prevention. A MAT program is not meant to be a cure for addiction but rather is a tool that helps to provide a comprehensive approach to treatment as it is combined with other evidence-based therapy methods. This all-encompassing method of addiction treatment will support patients in having a well-rounded, effective addiction treatment in Los Angeles. At Novo Detox and Rehab centers, patients are provided with clinical care that assesses their current physical and mental health to offer relevant treatment methods that match where their health is throughout the recovery journey.

What Is MAT?

A medically assisted treatment (MAT) program is an addiction recovery program that utilizes specific medications to support individuals in gaining long-term sobriety. A MAT program is typically provided to patients that are living with a current alcohol or opioid addiction. Participating in MAT is voluntary and meant for those patients who wish to participate to achieve their overarching goal of living in sobriety and are experiencing strong, powerful cravings for alcohol or drugs.

A MAT program is often started by combining it with an alcohol or drug detox program to support patients in mitigating the severity of their withdrawal symptoms. For many individuals that are living with severe alcohol or drug addiction, the thought of quitting your substance abuse comes with reservations as you have heard or you have experienced the unpleasant side effects of alcohol or drug withdrawal. When you participate in our comprehensive MAT program that is paired with our safe detox and rehab practices, you will be able to remain focused on your goals of living a life of sober living.

There are specific medications that can be used for either opioids or alcohol. Medications offered within a MAT are:

Buprenorphine: Also known as suboxone, is used to support patients in overcoming opioid addiction. Patients will experience a lessening in drug cravings and a reduction in the severity of any onset of drug withdrawal symptoms to a mild or moderate level allowing individuals to remain comfortable and focused on achieving sobriety.

Methadone: This medication is an opioid agonist that helps to block the opioid receptors in the brain acting as a safeguard by blocking the effects of opioids if consumed while also reducing the severity of withdrawal symptoms and eliminating the onset of intense drug cravings.

Naltrexone: Individuals can be provided this medication if they are living with an alcohol or opioid addiction. Naltrexone provides relief from intense alcohol or drug cravings while also acting as a method of relapse prevention due to the side effects it can cause should someone engage in substance abuse while taking Naltrexone.

What to Expect During MAT?

When you are participating in a MAT program, you will have an addiction treatment program that utilizes the many evidence-based therapy methods to support your healing from your addiction physically and emotionally. To ensure you have long-term success in sobriety, it is important that you have a comprehensive approach to healing through traditional addiction therapy, holistic treatments, and medically assisted treatment.

Before beginning a MAT program, you will meet with the clinical team at Novo detox and rehab who will complete intake interviews and assessments to gain an understanding of the severity of your drug or alcohol abuse. This will help our team be able to create a specific, customized treatment plan that is centered around your healing needs. Patients can begin a MAT program before they enter into an inpatient rehab program or detox program to help begin the addiction recovery process and slowly taper off of opioids or alcohol safely.

During your MAT program, you will be invited to participate in other addiction treatment methods within inpatient or outpatient rehab. While medications can support you in overcoming the physical addiction to drugs or alcohol, in order to have long-term success in sobriety, you will need to learn what has been at the root of your alcohol or drug addiction. With the support of the following behavioral therapies in conjunction with a MAT, patients will be able to heal from the underlying causes of their addiction to begin to pave a new path toward a life in addiction recovery:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: CBT is designed to help patients learn how to identify and manage triggers that present themselves by being self-aware and present to regulate emotions and interactions with others.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: DBT supports patients in developing new coping strategies to overcome triggers and stressors while learning how to have healthy relationships that foster life in sobriety.
  • Dual Diagnosis Treatment: If you are living with an alcohol or drug addiction along with a co-occurring mental health disorder, it is important that you address and heal from both within a dual diagnosis treatment program. Individuals will be able to heal from the root causes of addiction while learning methods of managing mental health symptoms through natural, holistic practices.
  • Family Therapy: Having strong connections with loved ones that can support you will increase your ability to remain sober. Through family therapy, patients are able to rebuild trust and establish healthy communication and boundaries to create a strong family unit that holds each other accountable while providing unconditional love and support.
  • Trauma Therapy: Those living with an alcohol or drug addiction often will have had a history of traumatic emotions or memories. Throughout addiction treatment, patients will have the opportunity to address and heal from the traumas of the past while letting go of the negative responses that can occur when the traumatic memories surface.
  • Holistic treatments: Patients will be able to participate in activities such as yoga, mindfulness practices, massage therapy, and more. All of these treatments help to keep you relaxed and focused and mitigate any physical discomfort caused by alcohol or drug withdrawal
  • Relapse prevention education and practices: Patients will learn tools for overcoming triggers, and learning to manage unpleasant emotions while avoiding negative responses.
  • Physical activity: Engaging in physical activity not only helps improve your physical strength but has been shown to be an effective method for managing co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Nutritional therapy and coaching: Healthy eating and a proper diet support physical healing from addiction and increase brain functioning including healthy emotional regulation
