Sober Living in Los Angeles: Choose Novo Detox
Novo Detox’s recovery center provides drug detox and inpatient alcohol rehab and drug rehab services for people living in Los Angeles California. Our substance abuse programs are accredited by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA), the Joint Commission, and the California Department of Health Services.
When you come to the Novo treatment center, you will live inside our luxury detox center for 30 to 90 days on average, receiving several levels of care, including medically-assisted treatment in Los Angeles, alcohol rehab, drug addiction treatments, and dual diagnosis treatments for co-occurring mental health issues like bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, impulse control disorder, anxiety, depression, and codependency. Some of the therapy and treatment options available in our facility include:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy and other behavior treatments like dialectical behavior therapy
- Individual therapy sessions
- Case management
- Family therapy
- Group therapy
- Biopsychosocial assessment
- Life and social skills training
- Creative healing
- Nutritional health
- 12-step programs including Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous
- Aftercare planning
Once your inpatient residential program is over at Novo, you are not left on your own. We are part of a strong network of outpatient rehab programs that include partial hospitalization programs (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP), as well as telehealth and virtual care options.
Our aftercare planning program will ensure you have a strong plan in place, and that includes finding a sober living home for you to live in after inpatient rehab is complete. A sober living home is a group home environment that is 100% sober, and is used as transitional housing for people who may not have a stable and sober-friendly place to live.
If you move into a sober living home, you will agree to abide by all rules. This usually includes rules surrounding curfews, drug and alcohol policies, randomized drug tests, chores around the house, holding a job or attending outpatient rehab, and rules about guests in the home. You will have to be responsible and accountable for your own actions, respect other guests, and remain drug- and alcohol-free. Boundaries at sober living homes are firm. Each home has their own policies, but there are serious consequences to failing to abide by the rules, including losing your place in the home. For this reason, sober homes are instrumental in helping people work hard to remain in recovery.
Most sober homes allow residents to come and go as they please during the day. Transitioning back to work or school and other normal activities can begin from the sober home, honing the coping mechanisms and other recovery skills you learned in rehab out in the real world, knowing you have full, competent support when you return to the sober home.
If you are a person experiencing homelessness a sober living home is an excellent place to get a fresh start after rehab, and many homes offer help finding more permanent housing. An outpatient program will provide life skills, case management, and job finding skills, allowing you to move forward in life on a positive trajectory.
Benefits of Sober Living With Novo Detox
After inpatient detox and residential rehab inside the Novo Detox treatment center, it may not be in your best interest to return to the same living situation you left. Being surrounded by old friends, drug and alcohol temptations, the stresses of life, and being in the same house or environment may make it too difficult to avoid immediate relapse. Your social network and environment can be two big influences on whether or not you are able to remain sober during early recovery.
For this reason, moving into a temporary or long-term sober living home (sometimes called a halfway house) may be the best thing you can do for yourself, so you are not immediately immersed in all the triggers and temptations you left behind when you went to rehab. Some of the other benefits of sober living homes in Los Angeles CA include:
- A 100% sober environment where there is no chance of encountering drugs or alcohol
- Consistent reinforcement of the lessons and skills you learned in rehab
- Having a quiet and peaceful environment where you can feel safe as you rest and recover
- A good combination of stability and freedom inside a structured environment
- Not being alone in your recovery, with sober roommates who are encountering similar issues and challenges as you are, with opportunities to create sober friendships
- Developing your coping skills and honing relapse prevention skills while out in the world with full support when you return to the home
- Working on healthy life habits like exercise routines, basic hygiene, budgeting, cooking for yourself, etc.
- Connections to aftercare support groups, peer groups, online treatments, trauma therapy, outpatient rehab programs, and sober outings
- Being able to return to work and school, gradually taking on normal life tasks again

Women's Sober Living Los Angeles
Novo Detox’s recovery center can provide referrals to women for women’s only recovery houses. This is important as there are certain unique gender-specific challenges that women face when it comes to addiction rehabilitation, housing, sober living, and getting back to life after rehab is complete. When you are living in a women’s only sober living home in Los Angeles, treatment programs help with issues such as:
- Childcare issues, custody issues, and other complex family services
- Underlying trauma and issues surrounding abuse
- Avoiding gender-based stigmas, silencing, stereotyping, and sexual harassment
- Building confidence and learning to live an independent life through empowerment, freedom of expression, life skills, and connections to caseworkers in a sober living community
A women’s only sober living home fosters a safe and communicative environment where you can continue working on your recovery from addiction and plan your future in peace.
Men's Sober Living Los Angeles
In a men’s only sober living recovery home or transitional housing, distractions are limited as you work toward long-term recovery from substance abuse, facing issues and stigmas head-on, including:
- Working through mental health issues, emotions, sexuality, and trauma in a safe and non-judgmental environment with male peers
- Dealing with the gender-specific stigmas that come with addiction, including perceptions of weakness and issues like violence, compulsive behavior, and toxic masculinity while staying sober
- Learning to live independently without relying on others, learning effective communication techniques, cooking and cleaning skills, personal hygiene, time management, and financial literacy
- Gaining new sober friendships and learning to have fun without using drugs or drinking
In a men’s only sober home, you will be surrounded by other supportive men who understand where you are coming from. You will work with a case worker and other professionals, living the sober and healthy life you have been working towards.
Aftercare & Alumni Support
At Novo Detox’s treatment center for substance abuse and drug and alcohol treatment, we not only help you physically detox using medication-assisted treatment, but through therapy and other integrated mental health and wellness treatments, we can start you down the long road to recovery after drug and alcohol abuse. You will stay with us for a set number of days, after which time you will move home or into a sober living facility.
This does not mean you are cut off from our support. In fact, when you rehabilitate at Novo treatment center, you will be connected with several options for aftercare and alumni support that can last for as long as you need them to while living in one of the many Los Angeles sober living homes. These programs include:
- 12-step program involvement: 12-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are available throughout the Los Angeles California area and have been proven to be effective in not only helping people remain sober but also connecting people with spiritual fulfillment through belief in a higher power. 12-step programs also offer lasting connections to a recovery community.
- Soberlink: Soberlink is a breathalyzer that connects to your smartphone. It will randomly require you to breathe into it, taking a picture of the person doing the breathing for verification. If the test shows positive, the app will notify your designated therapist, case worker, or family member.
- Sober Coaching: you may be connected with a sober coach who will work with you on your recovery issues and managing daily life challenges as you transition back to your life as a sober person
- Medical-Assisted Support: some addictions come with long-term drug or alcohol cravings that can be managed through prescription medication
- Telehealth/Virtual Care options: Novo Detox offers virtual addiction treatments through an online intensive outpatient addiction treatment program through a secure telehealth platform for California residents. This way, you may speak to therapists and psychiatrists, watch videos, join groups, and meet with a case manager while living at home or in sober living environments.
At Novo Detox, we will help you plan your discharge from our facility so that you will know what to do when times get tough in the real world.
