Even if you and a friend were to enter our medically supervised treatment center after drinking the same amount of alcohol for the same number of days, and we provided the exact same treatments, your timeline would be different because of brain chemistry, biological, physical health, mental health, emotional, and behavioral factors.
There are three potential stages of withdrawal, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians:
- Mild (appearing within 6 to 12 hours) – headaches, anxiety, insomnia, stomach issues, and hand tremors
- Moderate (appearing within 24 hours) – increased blood pressure and heart rate, confusion, high body temperature, and rapid breathing. Some may experience hallucinations
